Katy Bicknell, LMSW
My approach to therapy is deeply curious and relational. Through my years as a social worker, parent, psychotherapist, and human I have learned that we can lose touch with ourselves in the layers of our lives. Healing ourselves and tending to our pain is possible when we have contact with an environment that promotes safe visibility and supportive discovery.
I work with teenagers and adults, believing many of us carry some experiences of our younger selves with us into present day. Prior to private practice I spent years working with children and families, bearing witness to the creative adaptations of the human condition, and tapping into my client’s unique inner wisdom to provide support and lasting change.
Over time my approach to understanding clients has led me to training and treatment of developmental and complex trauma. These experiences can look like depression, panic, loneliness, emotional flashbacks, dissociation, numbness, and can improve with relational and collaborative approaches. I am also committed to providing an affirming space for clients who are neurodivergent and identify as LGBTQIA+.
My trainings include: neurobiological approaches to attachment, parts work, modern relational psychoanalysis, psychodynamic, somatic approaches, human development, and emerging adulthood with neurodivergence in youth. I work out of a humanistic base. This means that as I continue to advance my clinical skills and utilize different frameworks, my approach prioritizes unconditional positive regard, authentic empathy, and innate drives towards healing.
When I am not working I am likely with my family. This includes my husband, three children, and two cats.
